5 things you may not know about Neil Armstrong

5 things you may not know about Neil Armstrong

He had many close calls in flight

Several people remember Armstrong as the calm commander who landed Apollo 11 on the Moon in 1969. But it took him decades of flying to gain the required experience to safely navigate the spacecraft.

Armstrong first got his pilot’s license at age 16. After graduating high school in Ohio in 1948, he took part in Purdue University and had his tuition paid for by the Holloway Plan. The program had him attend his first 2 years at Purdue, then leave for 2 years of flight training and one year of aviator service with the U.S. Navy before returning to campus to complete his final two years.

While serving in the Korean War in year 1951, Armstrong was flying low at 500 feet and 350 miles per hour. His plane hit a wire the North Koreans had connected  up to damage low-flying planes. The wire ripped 6 feet off his right-wing. Armstrong flew his plane toward the ocean and away from enemy tract . He eliminated over the water, but the winds dragged his parachute back toward land. To his surprise, an American military vehicle soon growled by and picked him up. The driver was a friend from a flight school.

He had musical talents

While completing  his bachelor’s in aeronautical engineering, Armstrong even joined a fraternity and had a bit of fun. For the school’s university Varieties, each fraternity had to present a short musical review. Armstrong twice wrote and led his fraternity’s musical, containing a version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It shows he paid too much attention to the musical, and he got a C that term in psychology for engineers, a C in aircraft vibrations and a D in electrical engineering.

Armstrong even met his first wife, Janet, at Purdue University where she was studying home economics. The couple wed in year 1956, and Armstrong began working as a test pilot after graduation. They moved to the California where Armstrong took a job at Edwards Air Force Base. Whenever he flew over their house, Armstrong would tip the plane wings to say “hello” to his wife and young son under .

He was a Individual person

Armstrong’s 2nd child, Karen, died at the age of three in 1962. She had a tangle  on her brain stem and later died of complications from the illness. Friends and colleagues  remembered he aged quickly while this time and kept quiet about his loss. One friend from Purdue recalled he returned to the Indiana for the school’s homecoming events. Their group of friends met for cocktails, and Armstrong broke down after seeing a friend’s young daughter in her green party dress.

Soon after his daughter’s death, Armstrong determined to apply to a new NASA space project. When NASA 1st convened Project Mercury to pursue human space flight, Armstrong was inappropriate because he was a civilian, not a military pilot. In year 1962, NASA began a new project and invited civilian pilots to apply. Armstrong initially hesitated, but he and his wife wanted to leave the California after losing Karen.

He flew several , many missions

Armstrong was chosen for NASA Astronaut Corps in September 1962, but he wasn’t decided NASA’s top guy. He flew his 1st mission as backup crew in year 1965. He continued to serve on crews for space flights until the November 1967 when he was chosen to command the Apollo 11 on a lunar mission.

The White House wished the commander to be a civilian, and NASA leaders picked Armstrong both as the commander and the first one to step out of the lunar module and onto the Moon dust. Several people suspected the higher ups chose Armstrong because of  his likable persona. Armstrong was known for his quiet confidence, and he never took any shortcuts on his way to creating  history.

When Armstrong walked on the Moon on the July 21, 1969, he said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” He later claimed he told “a man” and the tape has been examined over the years to see if an ‘a’ was indeed present.

He still had to defend his master's thesis

After his historic Moonwalk, Armstrong got invitations to meet with dignitaries worldwide. He became a household name, but he still had to affect his thesis committee the hard way.

Armstrong had finished his coursework at the University of Southern California for a master’s in aeronautical engineering while still working as a test pilot in the California. In year 1970, he returned to USC and successfully passed an oral aegis of his thesis.

Armstrong left NASA in year 1971, moved his family back to the Ohio and took a professor position at the University of Cincinnati, where he remained for the next 8 years. He remained joined with NASA and he served on different commissions, containing the one that investigated the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger.

He continued to fly nice into his 70 s. When he died at the age of 82 in year 2012, he donated several  of his personal papers to Purdue University, containing the staggering 70,000 pieces of fan mail.

7 Reasons Why You Might Want to Stop Using Telegram

7 Reasons Why You Might Want to Stop Using Telegram

Telegram is a solid chat app, but it's not a perfect. Here are some considerations to think about before utilizing Telegram for your messages.

There are a variety of causes to use Telegram, from its convenient multi-device sync to its fun stickers and other chat features. And while Telegram has greatly improved its popularity in recent years, there are some downsides of the app to consider, too.

Let's look at some of the causes you might want to step away from Telegram. Not all of them will apply to everyone, but it's good to know the weaknesses in every app you rely on.

1. Telegram Chats Aren't End-to-End Encrypted by Default

If you're not too familiar with Telegram, you might suppose  that all your chats are protected with end-to-end encryption, like they are on Whats App and Signal. But this isn't the case.

Telegram does the encrypt your messages as they travel between your device and the Telegram server. However, these messages sit on the server so you can access them from a multiple devices. A break of Telegram's servers could thus result in your messages being exposed.

The service gives  end-to-end encryption in its secret chats, but you have to start these manually. If you forget to start one, or someone else begins a non-secret chat with you, it doesn't enjoy the similar privacy protections.

2. Telegram Collects Your Contact Data

By default, Telegram gathers basic data about the contacts on your phone. The company tells it does this to notify you when someone you know signs up for Telegram and to show their name in the service. When someone you recognize joins Telegram, you'll see the name you have saved for the contact, not their Telegram screen name.

While Telegram only stores the first and final name and phone number of your contacts, this is still a bit about for an app that's focused on privacy. Even , getting a notification every time a friend joins the app is a pain, mainly if you have most other notifications turned off.

3. No Personal Read Receipts in Group Chats

If you utilize a messaging app for a lot of group chats, Telegram lacks a handy feature that might be a deal-breaker. While Telegram group chats do contain  read receipts, they don't keep track of each person who has read your message.

Instead, immediately  one member of the group has opened a message, two checks will appear. There's no way to be sure who hasn't seen the message yet, aside from utilizing people's Last Seen status to infer who hasn't opened the app in a while. Depending on what you utilize group chats for, this might cause you to jump to another app.

4. Telegram Has Limited Support

Hopefully, you won't ever have a trouble with Telegram that needs you to contact a support team.

Telegram gives limited support; the main choices are reaching out on Twitter, visiting the Telegram help form, or going to Settings > Ask a Question in the app. This is staffed by volunteers, so while you may obtain an answer to your query, there's no guarantee. If you can't receive an answer by reaching out, you'll have to hope it's in the FAQ.

If you have deeper troubles with the app, getting a hold of someone who actually works at the company could be difficult . This isn't a big knock against Telegram, but it could be a concern for some.

5. Your Friends Might Not Use It

A lot of the probable  reasons to ignore Telegram are related to usability, privacy, and security. But there's another practical cause  that's easy to overlook: if your friends aren't on Telegram, there's not much point in utilizing it.

You might be able to convince a few friends to create  an account on Telegram to make a group chat with them, but that only goes so far. Most people won't wish to bother downloading a secondary messaging app just to talk to you when Whats App, i Message, SMS, or whatever else they already utilize works fine for their needs.

Telegram still has some value if you utilize it alone; check out the best Telegram channels to join to see how. But any messenger is a lot better when you can talk to most of your buddies in one place.

6. Ads and a Subscription Plan

Apps such as Telegram have to make money somehow, mainly as they scale to serve hundreds of millions of users. Most of the time, apps introduce monetization by describing ads, and Telegram is no exception.

In late 2021 and early 2022, Telegram began rolling out ads in its app. These ads do not see in one-on-one messages or group chats. Instead, they are limited to public channels with more than 1,000 followers, and only appear in definite regions. See the differences between Telegram groups and channels if you aren't friendly.

While these ads are non-intrusive and privacy-conscious, they're still annoying to see in what was once a fully free app.

In June 2022, Telegram introduced Telegram Premium, an optional subscription service that offers you extra goodies. These contain doubling the file size upload limit, giving unique stickers, letting you create more folders to organize your chats, and removing ads.

At $5/month, Telegram Premium isn't worth it for most humans . But it's annoying that the app locks some handy features behind a paywall, mainly compared to other messaging apps that don't include ads or any subscriptions.

7. Miscellaneous Telegram Concerns

We've looked at some of the major causes you might want to step away from Telegram above. There are a some other minor considerations to keep in mind, containing :

While this is up to individual preference, some people complain that Telegram's interface isn't visually pleasing. Telegram helps custom themes, though, which should take care of any problems here.

You can only sign up with a mobile phone number; there's no choice to sign up with just an email address, or something else. This might be  a roadblock for you.

History of coffee

 History of coffee

No one knows exactly how or when coffee was found , though there are several legends about its origin.

An Ethiopian Legend

Coffee developed worldwide can trace its heritage back centuries to the ancient coffee forests on the Ethiopian plateau. There, legend says the goat herder Kaldi first found the potential of these beloved beans.

The story goes that that Kaldi found coffee after he noticed that after eating the berries from a definite  tree, his goats became so energetic that they did not wish to sleep at night.

Kaldi reported his security to the abbot of the local monastery, who made a drink with the berries and discovered that it kept him alert via the long hours of evening prayer. The abbot shared his discovery with the other monks at the monastery, and knowledge of the energizing berries start to spread.

As word moved east and coffee approached the Arabian peninsula, it began a journey which would bring these beans all around the globe.

The Arabian Peninsula

Coffee cultivation and trade started on the Arabian Peninsula.  By the 15th century, coffee was being grown in the Yemeni district of the Arabia and by the 16th century it was recognized in Persia, Egypt, Syria, and Turkey.

Coffee was not only enjoyed in houses, but even in the many public coffee houses — called qahveh khaneh — which started  to appear in cities across the Near East. The popularity of the coffee houses was unequaled and humans frequented them for all types of social activity.

Not only did the patrons drink coffee and engage in conversation, but they even listened to music, watched performers, played chess and kept recent on the news.  Coffee houses speedily became such vital  center for the exchange of information that they were often referred to as “Schools of the Wise.”

With thousands of pilgrims visiting the holy city of Mecca every year from all over the world, knowledge of this “wine of Araby” started to spread.

Coffee Comes to Europe

European visitors to the Near East brought back stories of an unusual dark black beverage. By the 17th century, coffee had created its way to Europe and was becoming famous across the continent.

Some humans reacted to this new beverage with suspicion or fear, calling it the “bitter invention of Satan.” The local clergy criticize coffee when it came to Venice in 1615. The controversy was so best that Pope Clement VIII was asked to intervene. He determined to taste the beverage for himself before making a decision, and established the drink so satisfying that he gave it papal approval.

Despite such controversy, coffee homes were quickly becoming centers of social activity and communication in the major cities of the  England, Austria, France, Germany and Holland. In England “penny universities” sprang up, so called because for the cost  of a penny one could buy a cup of coffee and engage in stimulating conversation.

Coffee started to replace the common breakfast drink beverages of the time — beer and wine. Those who drank coffee instead of alcohol started the day alert and energized, and not surprisingly, the quality of their work was greatly developed .

By the mid-17th century, there were over 300 coffee homes in the  London, several of which attracted like-minded patrons, containing merchants, shippers, brokers and artists.

Several  businesses grew out of these specialized coffee houses. Lloyd's of London, for example, came into existence at the Edward Lloyd's Coffee Home.

The New World

In the mid-1600's, coffee was led to New Amsterdam, later called New York by the British.

Though coffee houses quickly began to appear, tea continued to be the favored drink in the New World until 1773, when the colonists revolted against a heavy tax on tea imposed by majesty George III. The revolt, recognized as the Boston Tea Party, would forever change the American drinking preference to coffee.

Plantations Around the World

As request for the beverage continued to spread, there was fierce competition to cultivate coffee outside of the Arabia.

The Dutch eventually got seedlings in the latter half of the 17th century. Their 1st attempts to plant them in India failed, but they were successful with their tries in Batavia, on the island of Java in what is now Indonesia.

The plants thrived and soon the Dutch had a productive and developing  trade in coffee. They then expanded the cultivation of coffee trees to the islands of the Sumatra and Celebes.

Coming to the Americas

In 1714, the Mayor of Amsterdam presented a present of a young coffee plant to King Louis XIV of France. The King commanded it to be planted in the Royal Botanical Garden in Paris. In 1723, a young naval officer, Gabriel de Clieu got a seedling from the King's plant. Despite a challenging voyage — finish with horrendous weather, a saboteur who tried to destroy the seedling, and a pirate attack — he managed to transport it securely to Martinique.

Once planted, the seedling not only thrived, but it’s credited with the spread of over 18 million coffee trees on the island of Martinique in the next fifty years. Even more unbelievable is that this seedling was the parent of all coffee trees throughout the Caribbean, South and Central America.

The famed Brazilian coffee owes its existence to Francisco de Mello Palheta, who was sent by the emperor to French Guiana to obtain  coffee seedlings. The French were not wanting to share, but the French Governor's wife, captivated by his good looks, gave him a big bouquet of flowers before he left— buried inside were enough coffee seeds to start what is today a billion-dollar industry.

Missionaries and visitors , merchants and colonists continued to carry coffee seeds to new lands, and coffee trees were planted worldwide. Plantations were founded  in magnificent tropical forests and on rugged mountain highlands. Some crops flourished, during others were short-lived. New countries  were established on coffee economies. Fortunes were created and lost. By the end of the 18th century, a coffee had become one of the world's most profitable export crops. After crude oil, coffee is the most sought commodity on the Earth.

In some situations, the months and days result of this age calculator may be confusing, especially when the starting date is the end of a month. For example, we all count Feb. 20 to March 20 to be one month. However, there are two ways to calculate the age from Feb. 28, 2015 to Mar. 31, 2015. If thinking Feb. 28 to Mar. 28 as one month, then the result is one month and 3 days. If thinking both Feb. 28 and Mar. 31 as the end of the month, then the result is one month. Both calculation results are reasonable. Similar situations exist for dates like Apr. 30 to May 31, May 30 to June 30, etc. The confusion comes from the uneven number of days in different months. In our calculation, we used the former method.

Separating foods that generate more ethylene gas from those that don’t is another great way to decrease food spoilage. Ethylene promotes ripening in foods and could direct to spoilage.

Foods that produce ethylene gas while ripening contain :

  • Bananas
