Teacher's Day is celebrated every year on 5th September.  Teachers' Day is celebrated across India on 5 September to show respect to teachers on the occasion of the birthday of former President of India Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.  'Guru' has great importance in everyone's life.  They also have a special place in the society.  Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan believed a lot in education.  He was a great philosopher and teacher.  He had a deep love for teaching.  He had all the qualities of an ideal teacher.  On this day, awards are also given to the best teachers by the Government of India all over the country.

Preparations - On this day studies in schools are closed.  There are activities of celebration, thanksgiving and remembrance in schools.  Both children and teachers take part in cultural activities.  Various programs are organized on Teacher's Day in different institutions including schools and colleges.  While students honor their gurus in different ways, teachers take a vow to uphold the guru-disciple tradition.

There is a festive atmosphere throughout the day in the school and college.  A round of colorful programs and honors goes on throughout the day.  This day is celebrated by remembering Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary.

Guru-disciple relationship and epilogue.... on next page

Guru-disciple relationship - Guru-disciple tradition is an important and sacred part of India's culture, many golden examples of which are recorded in history.  A teacher is like a gardener who decorates a garden with flowers of different colors.

Which inspires the students to walk smiling even on thorns.  Today all the government efforts are being made to take education to every household.  Teachers should also get the respect they deserve.  Only a Guru creates good character in the disciple.

Epilogue - Today all the teachers have started bidding for their knowledge.  In the present perspective, the tradition of Guru-Shishya is getting tarnished somewhere.  There are reports of misbehavior by teachers with students and teachers by students every day.

Seeing this, a question mark appears on this priceless guru-disciple tradition of our culture.  It is the responsibility of both the students and the teachers that they understand this great tradition better and provide their support in building a good society.
