1896: Scientific practice discovers what is radioactive due to bacterial use.


 1947: The International Monetary Fund begins its financial operations.


 1951: Nitish Kumar, who has been out of Bihar's socialist movement and held the post of Chief Minister for 10 years.


 1954: America's largest explosion on any human side in the bikini archipelago of the Marshall Islands in the Pacific.  It is believed that the hydrogen bomb was a thousand times more powerful than the atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima.


 1966: British Finance Minister James Callahan announces changes to the British currency system.


 1983: Mary Kom honored by winning medals at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.
